ONE PIECE TOP 5: NICKLAS LIDSTROM BOOM!!

Hey guys, so I guess it’s my turn to name my one of my top five captains

The league has an array of amazingly talented captains and we wanted to show you who our Top 10 are, just before the season officially kicks off. Following Auspucks lead I’m going to start with one of my favourites: Nick Lidstrom.

Lidstrom is a big favourite of mine seeing as he plays on the best team in the world. Biased I know, but it’s true, GO WINGS WOOT!! Ok ok, I’m done. 

Since getting drafted by the red wings in ’89, 53rd overall, he has proven to be a diamond in the rough (a common occurrence it seems within the organisation). After floating around the elitesirien for a season or 2, he got the call up to join the wings roster in ‘91. Remarkably, in his rookie season, he racked up 60 points and missed out on the Calder Trophy finishing second to Pavel Bure.

Lidstrom has been a consistent force in the NHL due to his amazing ability to read the game.  Unlike most defence men in the NHL who rely on their weight and the ability to throw their body around, Lidstrom has made a career out of using his brains instead of his brawn; creating turnovers and scoring chances. He averaged 60pts+ every season due to this as a defenseman which is amazing in itself.

After one of the best captains in NHL history retired from the red wings in 2006, Lidstrom was appointed the captain and had some huge shoes to fill. In his 2nd year of captaincy, Lidstrom brought home the cup in an amazing playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2008.

Since joining the wings in 91, Lidstrom has won 4 stanley cups (1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008), 6 Norris Trophy’s (2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008) and the Conn Smythe Trophy  (2002).
So yeah, Nick Lidstrom BOOM my number Four captain. GO WINGS!!!!!
