Weekend Round-up, FTS and thoughts.

Hi All,

Welcome to some more Monday musings. Wow, 11 players from the Dogs Adelaide game were sent off. I wonder if that is some kind of AIHL record? Old-time hockey I guess. Still, I guess if your an Ice Dog you have to try and save some face after get shellacked 10 - 4. The Blue Tongues couldn't get any much needed points and dropped both games against the Ice. Their current 2 - 7 - 0 - 0  run has completely dropped them out of a finals contention spot. If they win both games against Newcastle and the Bears lose all their remaining (3) games, I will eat my hat.

Sorry for the lack of updates over the weekend. I was hectically busy. Which reminds me, I'm interested in recruiting some fellow bloggers. So if you are keen to chime in on a weekly basis and write an article about the AIHL or NHL and maybe chip in with a few FTS's every now and again, please feel free to email me at auspuck@gmail.com with your expression of interest.

On to todays links:

Ice Hockey Australia to host the 2011 World Championship - Featuring such hockey superpowers as Serbia, Belgium and New Zealand!

The debate of having a true #1 Goalie in the NHL - I still say you need a definite #1 goalie in any level of hockey to succeed.

Gerber's Back! - Signed with the Oilers.

Blackhawks: All cup, no profit! - Wow, what the hell does a team have to do to turn a profit in the NHL. I always think this is some kind of tricky accounting work to make it look like they are losing money. Remember that if a team owns their arena, they usually receive wheel-barrows full of cash profits from that, but technically declare that the team lost money.

August predictions of NHL moves - God lets hope something happens.

Chris Chelios has finally retired at the tender age of 214 - Plan C for a number of AHL teams just back fired. Quick, someone recruit him for the AIHL next year! Reports are also in that he is now going to work with the Red Wings front office.

Get your Forsberg man-crush ready to go - A return to the NHL is possible.

Some NHL player updates:

Vesa Toskala (BOOOO!!!!) will likely sign with some Swedish club.
Afinogenov is going to head back to Russia. (67pts in the NHL buys you a ticket out of town these days)
Reports that Wade Redden will be dropped by the Rangers are coming frequently.

  1. 11 players get sent off in one game and a player gets 2 minutes for roughing in the Melbourne v Gold coast game when all he did was shape up to throw a punch and not let it go. Is it time to hunt more talent in the ref pool?
